- Northern Ireland
- Republic of Ireland
14th October 2014, CARDI
On 14 October 2014, CARDI's Paul McGill spoke at this year's Institute of Public Health Open Conference. His presentation examined issues of growing health inequalities across the island of Ireland.
Some key stats:
- In the Republic people in low social classes are 65% more likely to have multimorbidity than those in high social classes. In Northern Ireland they are 117% more likely.
- People in Ireland, North and South, who live in disadvantaged areas have higher body mass index, higher rates of anxiety and depression and much higher smoking rates than people in better off areas .
