The Dementia Services and Information Development Centre recently undertook a survey of 602 Nursing Homes throughout Ireland to investigate how many Nursing Homes have a Specialist Care Unit (SCU) for people with Dementia. The study found that there are 54 Specialist Care Units in the Republic of Ireland, the average number of residents is 19, and private providers operate the majority of these units. The findings from the study have been compiled in the above report which will be officially launched by Professor Davis Coakley on Thursday 29 January.
