Smarter spending on better care: Counsel and Care Report
Counsel and Care believes smarter spending could release up to £3 billion that could be redirected to provide better care and support for the growing number of older people and their carers.
The charity's Smarter Spending For Better Care report, published 9th June 2010, sets out 10 ways in which current resources could be spent differently. These include: improving access to advice and information, particularly specialist financial advice; improving support for families and carers; helping older people stay in their own home for longer; and encouraging closer links between housing, health and care agencies. It also advocates the use of homecheck schemes, volunteering, technology such as telecare and access to drugs and treatments to reduce the impact of dementia. It is available below:
