The Western Health and Social Care Trust is taking forward recommendations from the Western Health and Social Services Board‘s (WHSSB) strategy “Meeting the Needs of Older People Locally” (2007- 2017). The main purpose of this strategy is to develop services that maintain Older People in their homes for as long as possible and to provide them with a range of care and accommodation solutions which promote independence and reduce long term dependency. The overwhelming message from the consultations that informed this strategy is that Older People wish to remain at home for as long as possible and avoid being accommodated in an institutional setting.
