The Panel Discussion, "Population Shifts: Challenges and Opportunities for Economic and Social Sustainability," organized by AARP and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) as a side event to the Annual Ministerial Review of the Economic and Social Council, addressed the demographic changes experienced globally and their impact on social and economic policies. Speakers presented country perspectives on this topic and how their national policies address the changing demographics.

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system. The panel discussion was arranged to contribute to this important dialogue.
