The Irish Heart Foundation says many people die needlessly from stroke because they cannot access vital stroke services. Between 350 and 500 lives could be saved annually if stroke units were introduced to Irish hospitals.  The country’s first national audit of stroke care is a major “wake-up call” for the Government and points out the need to develop a stroke strategy and roll out stroke units nationwide.
