Government reform proposals and future policy in relation to pensions is set out in the National
Pensions Framework which it published on 3 March 2010.
The Framework outlines reforms to State, private and public service pension provision. It will address the role of the employee, employer and State in providing for pensions as well as future retirement age.
The aim of the National Pensions Framework is to deliver security, equity, choice and clarity for the individual.
It also aims to increase pension coverage, particularly among low to middle income groups and to ensure that State support for pensions is equitable and sustainable.
