Terms of reference for the investigation into the rights of older people in nursing care in Northern Ireland - February 2010
The number of older people in the UK is growing faster than any other age group. This has implications for the whole of society, including, among other issues, the provision of nursing care.
The Human Rights Commission is investigating how older people living in nursing homes in Northern Ireland are being treated. We are especially interested to learn about the day to day lives of nursing home residents and the care they receive. We want to hear from residents, their family members, friends and carers, as well as from nursing home staff.
Special telephone line launched
To help gather as much information as possible, we have launched a call for evidence during February 2010. The information we receive through the call for evidence and our wider investigation will contribute towards a report. The report will make recommendations for improving the lives of nursing home residents as well as addressing the needs of care providers.
If you wish to tell us about your experience, please call our dedicated freephone number between 15 February and 26 February 2010.
