Although the cause(s) of Parkinson’s is currently unknown, most researchers believe that multiple factors play a contributory role and it is likely to be caused by a combination of both genetic and environmental factors. Our current understanding of what happens within the nerve cell as it dies is poor, though, recently, there have been major steps forward. These have mainly come from the identification of genetic factors that make people more susceptible to the non-inherited form of Parkinson’s.
