The presentations, and the webcast, from the FUTURAGE Road Map Launch Conference "Meeting the Grand Challenge of Ageing: The European Research Agenda" are now available for download from: http://futurage.group.shef.ac.uk/road-map-launch-conference.html.

The conference took place on 18 October 2011 in the European Parliament and showcased the Road Map in front of 300 attendees.  The programme also featured 16 speakers representing the key initiatives on European and Canadian ageing research.  The event was chaired by the STOA (Science and Technology Options Assessment) Panel and was opened by Mr Heinz Becker MEP, of the Intergroup on Ageing

The Road Map itself, which provides a research agenda for the next 10 years of European ageing research, is available from http://futurage.group.shef.ac.uk/road-map.html

This document contains the research agenda that will enable Europe to respond successfully to the unprecedented demographic challenges it faces. Its twin starting points are the high priority allocated to population ageing, by Member States and the European Union as a whole, and the fundamental importance of scientific research as the driver of innovations in public policy, in a wide range of clinical and other professional practices, and in the development of products and services. The combination of science and innovation will be the cornerstone of Europe’s future success, both in terms of economic growth and the promotion of social quality for all citizens, and that equation lies at the heart of this Road Map.
