The International Longevity Centre – UK was commissioned by the JRF to produce a review on the 'Equality and diversity and older people with high support needs'
In 2009, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) launched A Better Life, a new research programme focussing on how we can improve the quality of life of older people with high support needs.
As part of this research programme, The International Longevity Centre – UK was commissioned by the JRF to produce a review on the 'Equality and diversity and older people with high support needs'. The report considers what we know about the needs and situations of older people with high support needs from different equality groups, and the barriers they commonly face in service provision.
The review was written by Imogen Blood and Sally Marie Bamford.
This review adopts a ‘capability-based’ approach to equality, analysing older people with high support needs from different equality groups and highlighting relevant debates associated to equality and diversity.
Drawing on a range of reports, statistics and conversations with 13 experts, it presents:
- the equality profile of older people with high support needs;
- equality and diversity issues in accessing and experiencing services;
- the gaps in the evidence base;
- a summary of the key debates and recommendations to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation
The report is available at the following link: Equality and diversity and older people with high support needs
