Overall, 2.2% of men and 3.0% of women in Scotland are living with cancer. Pain is a major health care problem for patients with cancer. Evidence suggests that from two thirds to three quarters of patients with advanced stage disease or metastatic cancer will experience pain. Cancer pain has many dimensions including psychological, physical, social and spiritual which must be addressed in order to improve quality of life and functional ability.
