North-South and International Networking

Q. Is it expected that every proposal should have involvement of both North and South?
Yes. The grants panel will consider other proposals only if there is money left over after considering all cross border (and multi-disciplinary) applications.

Q. Is this grants programme just for the Border Counties?

No it covers the whole of the island of Ireland.

Q. We are based outside Ireland. Can we apply for a research or network grant?
The grants programme has been developed to meet the needs of the ageing research community in Ireland. Researchers in Ireland may wish to form partnerships with people in other countries, especially if they have special expertise, but one of the Irish partners should take the lead.

Q. I’m interested in cross-border work but do not have any links in NI/RoI. What should I do?

CARDI has a developing list of contacts north and south and can help informally to put people in touch with others interested in similar areas of research across the border. You are welcome to register your own research interests. In addition, the mapping of Irish research against the subject areas of the UN research agenda might contain names of people you can contact – see www.cardi.ie/grantprogramme.

Q. If two applications are similar, would you suggest they are combined?
Yes, the grants panel may propose this because we support partnership working, especially if it brings different disciplines and sectors together to share perspectives and expertise.
