Alzheimer’s Research Trust comments on new research into driving saftey

The loss of freedom suffered by people with Alzheimer’s can be a traumatic element of living with the disease. Safety is paramount for any driver, but this research provides hope that independence could be preserved for longer, by using extra testing of vision, cognition, and motor skills to assess a person’s ability to drive safely.

700,000 people in the UK have dementia, a devastating condition that affects all aspects of a person’s life. We need to invest in research now to offer hope of treatments in the future.
