Putting dementia in the frame: Alzheimer's Society UK
Alzheimer’s Society is calling on budding photographers to capture what it is like to live with dementia as we launch a competition ahead of Dementia Awareness Week.
Looking beyond the stereotypes of living with the disease, Alzheimer's Society wants to gather a collection of photographs that capture what it really means to live with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia today. The portraits of people living with dementia may include people with their families, enjoying hobbies, travelling or just every day life at home.
The competition is being launched to coincide with 'Remember the person' theme of Dementia Awareness Week 2010.Becky Lopez, Marketing Manager, says,
'This Dementia Awareness Week, we are encouraging people to remember that behind every diagnosis there is a person living with the condition. We hope that the photography competition will look beyond the stereotypes of dementia and capture what it is really like for people living with dementia.'
A winner and two runners will be chosen and prizes include an iPhone, donated by Orange, and a digital camera, donated by Jadu, Alzheimer's Society's content management system provider. The three winners will also have their photos professionally printed and framed, courtesy of Xcalibre, Alzheimer's Society's print management company.
