Northern Ireland pensioners parliament coming in 2011: Age Sector Platform
The very first Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament will take place during 2011. Organised by Age Sector Platform, the Parliament will allow older people from across Northern Ireland to have their say on the issues that matter the most! The Parliament will empower older people here to make their voice heard, and we will ensure that it is listened to.
To request copies of our promotional leaflet, to register your interest in attending one of the local events or filling in a survey; or for more information about the Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament, please phone 028 9031 2089 or email info@agesectorplatform.org Source: Age Sector Platform
As well as the main Parliament, seven local events will also take place to ensure every older person in Northern Ireland has the opportunity to add their voice to the Parliament. Each local event will ‘elect’ representatives from their area to the overall Pensioners Parliament. Those unable to attend an event can complete a survey; the results of which will be fed into the overall Parliament discussion.
The local events will take place during March and April 2011.
This report will be sent to all MLAs, MPs and Councillors in Northern Ireland. The Office of the First and deputy First Minister (OFMdFM) - which has responsibility for older people in Northern Ireland - will also be provided with the report. Age Sector Platform will organise a briefing for Parliament representatives to outline the main outcomes of the process.
Issues that are controlled by Westminster will be brought to the NPC’s National Pensioners Parliament; held in Blackpool every year.
