CARDI's Strategic Research Officer, Paul McGill recently attended the launch of a new report on women in Northern Ireland. In this blog post he highlights some of the findings relevant to older women:
Northern Ireland must ‘up its game’ in future planning for older people, says a report launched at Stormont in July 2011 by the Women’s Resource and Development Agency.
“Our increasing longevity will require new ways of thinking and working based on the twin pillars of empowering active older people to live a fulfilling independent life and providing support and care for those who need it,” says‘Women on the Edge?’.
The report, written by Ms Bronagh Hinds from DemocraShe, reflects findings published by CARDI (Hillyard et al 2010) showing that many older women are struggling in the recession and others are concerned about what the future holds.
