Scotland An initiative aimed at improving the lives of elderly residents from minority communities in Edinburgh has picked up a European award.
Edinburgh's City for All Ages – Today and Tomorrow picked up first prize at an award ceremony in Bonn, Germany, in recognition of good practice by the Active Ageing and Social, Cultural and Economic Integration of Migrant Elders across Europe Project.
Today and Tomorrow is part of the innovative City for All Ages plan for older people, and includes a wide range of voluntary organisations that support older people from ethnic minorities.
The prize of 2500 euros will be used by Edinburgh to build on the work already established in the city for its older citizens.
Council leader Jenny Dawe said: "Older people are a significant proportion of our population and make an essential contribution to the city's quality of life.
"This plan, and the projects it supports, recognises and builds on the assets that our older population represents, and will help deliver our vision of a city that serves everyone, regardless of age or ethnicity, and provides them with improved access to its opportunities and services."
