A two-day conference at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus is to focus on how practitioners and care providers can best meet the needs of mental health patients.
The Sixth Annual Mental Health Conference, organised by the School of Nursing, will focus on ‘Enhancing Treatment and Promoting Mental Health’.Marie O’Neill, conference manager and lecturer in mental health nursing at Ulster’s School of Nursing said: “This is the sixth annual mental health conference to be held at the Magee campus. This conference provides an important opportunity to enhance the wealth of experience and knowledge gained through the exchange of ideas with mental health experts working within the healthcare sector as well as in our schools and communities.
"There have been many changes in the work of mental health practitioners and care providers. It is important to consider, in line with major mental health reviews, the impact our skills and services will have on the future delivery of quality mental health care.
"To help mark Mental Health Day 2009, this year’s conference aims to highlight the needs of people with mental health issues and the developments within research, education health and social care. All aspects of mental health including dementia, suicide, self-harm, stress and trauma will be on the agenda this week.”
Enhancing Treatment and Promoting Mental Health will take place at the University of Ulster, Magee campus from Thursday 29 until Friday 30 October.
