European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations
Conference Centre, Dublin Castle, Dublin 2.
11.30am, 9 February 2012.
The National Steering Group for European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations is honoured that President Michael D Higgins will officially launch the Year at Dublin Castle on February 9th at 11.30am.
2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. A chance for all of us to reflect on how Europeans are living longer and staying healthier than ever before — and to realise the opportunities that represents.
The aim of the Year is to encourage and support the contribution that older people make to society by promoting active ageing. Active ageing includes creating more opportunities for older people to continue working and to continue to contribute to society in a variety of other ways, thereby combating social exclusion, fostering active participation and encouraging healthy ageing.
The Year also places a focus on solidarity between generations which refers to the mutual support and cooperation between different age groups in order to achieve a society where people of all ages have a role to play in line with their needs and capacities, and can benefit from their community’s economic and social progress on an equal basis.
