JRF challenges society to think differently about ageing
The number of people over 85 in the UK will double in the next 20 years. More of us than ever are reaching old age and those who do face new challenges. But we rarely hear about this stage of life from the real experts. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has launched a pioneering new site, http://betterlife.jrf.org.uk/ and series of papers documenting diverse groups real experiences of ageing. The site gives older people's voices a platform. It highlights their experiences, resilience and ability to flourish across a century of huge change.
It features perspectives on growing old by a range of older people and includes the stories and experiences of:
- Older people with learning disabilities
- Older lesbians, gay men and bisexuals
- South Asian Elders
- People living with dementia
- Gypsy Elders
The site features great photography, blogs and submissions from older people.
