Hospice fundraising drive
The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) has appealed to the public to support their local hospice service by buying a sunflower pin or sunflower seeds for €2 each from collectors on the streets today (Friday, 13th June) and tomorrow (Saturday, 14th June).
Sunflower Days are a major source of income for hospices and voluntary hospice groups countrywide.
The IHF coordinates the event on behalf of the hospice movement but says all of the funds raised locally stay locally.
The use of the funds depends on the needs in each area – in some areas it is used to fund home care services and in others, it will be invested in the hospice, according to the IHF.
Eugene Murray, CEO of the IHF, stated: “We would appeal to the public to support their local hospice service by contributing to the sunflower collection over the next two days. Fundraising is vital to ensuring that hospice services are maintained and developed all over Ireland.
"The contribution you make today will allow the local hospice service to expand and provide quality care for patients and families in your own community,” he said.
