Data compiled by CARDI show a big and continuing rise in the number of older people and an even larger increase over the last decade in the number of older people remaining in employment.

CARDI evidence to the review of the UK default retirement age says the statistics suggest that people should be permitted to continue working after the age of 65.
It also calls for research on older workers in Ireland on issues such as:
the contribution of older people to the economy;
factors responsible for older workers’ choices on retiring or continuing to work, including the significance of employment income in relieving poverty among older people;
the extent to which employers have introduced age-friendly workplaces and adapted work so that it is suitable for older workers;
