Elderly get €230,000 to keep them more secure
Grants of over €230,000 have been given to the elderly to help with their security.
The Government yesterday confirmed 26 community organisations were being given money under the 'Scheme Of Community Support For Older People'.
The Pallaskenry Community Alert group, from Limerick, was given the largest amount, at €30,100, for the installation of alarm systems and personal security devices.
"Locally-based groups deliver the benefits of this scheme to older people in their communities, which in turn helps to promote and foster community involvement with the most vulnerable members of our society," said junior minister John Curran.
Elderly people living in islands off the coast can also apply for interior security lighting. Groups from 15 different counties benefited from the funding.
