A Dublin-based health technology start-up involved in developing systems for independent living has secured initial seed funding of €500,000.

Sensormind, who received investment from two private investors and Enterprise Ireland, will use the investment for product development and to launch its system in the UK market in 2011.

“Our goal now is to deliver innovative systems that enable older and vulnerable people to maintain their independence,” said Siobhan King-Hughes, CEO of Sensormind.

Innovative

King-Hughes founded Sensormind with her husband Cian Hughes in 2009 and participated in the DIT Hothouse Venture Programme.  The company is now based in Dublin City University’s Invent business innovation centre.

Sensormind has developed a number of products to support independent living, including an automated remote monitoring and alert system to help the elderly and vulnerable stay in their own homes and a system for helping care organisations to manage home visits effectively.

Sensormind is currently running live trials of the technology which are due to be completed in December.
