Home Instead Senior Care hosted a seminar about dementia and ageing in the community in the Tullamore Court Hotel recently.
The timing of the seminar is significant as senior home care providers and medical professionals alike set out to accomplish the same goal - to better care for seniors and meet the needs of the ageing population. Attendees at the seminar included local general practitioners, public health nurses and practice managers.
According to CSO data the 75 and older population is expected to more than triple by 2026 and the number of people with dementia in Ireland is expected to increase by more than 300 percent.
Teresa O'Reilly of Home Instead Senior Care in Offaly said, "Research reveals 11 people are diagnosed daily with dementia so there is a real need for Offaly's medical experts to look to the future and discuss dementia in primary care. I hope the seminar has helped local General Practitioners and community nurses build on their knowledge and understanding of dementia care within the context of primary care."
Home Instead Senior Care has also launched a new guide for healthcare professionals. Entitled, 'Dementia in Primary Care', the new guide aims to help healthcare professionals care for the increasing number of dementia patients.
The guide will be distributed to healthcare practitioners attending the upcoming senior health education seminars.
The seminar was part of a series of nationwide seminars hosted by Home Instead Senior Care. For further information on upcoming seminars please contact Home Instead Senior Care in Offaly on 057 932 3838 or visit www.homeinstead.ie
