Crowley’s resignation must act as wake-up call to Govt
Age Action is shocked to learn of Niall Crowley’s resignation as chief executive of the Equality Authority, and disturbed at the reasons for his decision to step down.
“Mr Crowley was a dedicated public servant who has made a tremendous contribution to Irish society through his sterling work with the Equality Authority,” Age Action chief executive Robin Webster said.
In the wake of his departure, Age Action has expressed concern for the efficacy of the Equality Authority. “In the absence of adequate funding, we concur with Mr Crowley that the authority will be unable to fulfill its mandate,” Mr Webster said.
“It is in everybody’s interest that all forms of discrimination are tackled. The Equality Authority was doing a magnificent job in this regard. Mr Crowley’s resignation must act as a wake up call to the Government to review its decision to cut the authority’s funding by 43%.”
