Age Concern and Help the Aged commment on today's meeting on social care reform (19.02.10)
In response to today’s meeting on social care reform‚ Michelle Mitchell‚ Charity Director of Age Concern and Help the Aged‚ said:
“Today’s meeting was an important step towards achieving much-needed reform to ensure that everyone gets the best care and support in later life. Those who attended the meeting showed an overwhelming commitment to engage in the debate and work together to identify areas of consensus.
“There is clearly broad agreement on some of the critical components of care reform including a national care system with a focus on prevention and shared responsibility for paying for care. But as ever‚ there are varied opinions on the detail and how the reform should be funded. In order to build on today’s discussion we will be hosting a debate within the next two weeks which we hope all the parties will attend.”
