2009 Jean Corsan Prize

Concept:
An annual prize of £1,000 (One Thousand Pounds Sterling), together with a framed certificate, will be awarded for the second time in March 2009 to the PhD or MD/PhD student registered at a United Kingdom University who, in the opinion of the adjudicating panel, has produced the best peer reviewed, original scientific paper published during the previous calendar year (2008) broadly on the subject of medical research into Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and/or similar conditions.

The prize will be known as the Jean Corsan Prize.

This, Second Jean Corsan Prize will be awarded at the Alzheimer’s Research Trust Network Conference in London on 19-20 March 2009 and the prize winner’s travel to the meeting and hotel accommodation at the meeting up to £250 will be additionally covered by the award.

Competition Organisation:

The chairman of the adjudicating panel will be Prof John Hardy of the Institute of Neurology. He is responsible for the adjudication with Prof Simon Lovestone (Institute of Psychiatry) and Dr Stuart Pickering-Brown (University of Manchester).

How to enter:

Self nomination is acceptable, and, in any event, the Prizewinner needs to be able to attend the ART Network Conference. To enter, simply email the 2008 dated pdf of the publication to Prof Hardy at j.hardy@ion.ucl.ac.uk. If the nominee is not the first author of the publication, then an additional text of less than 100 words explaining the nominee’s contribution to the publication is also required: this is not required if the student is the first author. The closing date for nominations is midnight on Friday 9th January and the winner will be notified on Friday 23rd February 2009.

The purpose of this early notification is to spur manuscript submission. A reminder will be sent round in the first week of December 2008.
