‘Developing a Framework for Palliative Interventions in Dementia Care in Ireland’
Applications are now invited for participation in an exploratory research study which will seek to establish a framework for palliative interventions to be included as part of the care pathway for people with dementia. The proposal for the study and application form can be downloaded below.
This exploratory research opportunity arises from the recommendations of the joint HSE and IHF report ‘Palliative Care for All - Integrating Palliative Care into DiseaseManagement Frameworks’, which was published in 2008 and was based on the findings of the Extending Access Study. This study examined how palliative care could extend to people with diseases other than cancer.
The initiative is supported by the HSE and funding has been secured from the Irish Hospice Foundation, Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Baxter International Foundation for the appointment of a part-time project officer for two years to undertake this exploratory research project in the selected site.
The target site for this exploratory research project will be a residential and/or community service caring for a general dementia population. The application process requires three applicants - one of which will be the lead applicant. A letter is also required from the local palliative care team indicating their support and engagement to the application.
