Day 5 can be taken as a stand alone day or part of a 3 day programme.
Nurses across all health care sectors face the challenge of embracing new methods
of care delivery aimed at providing evidence based, quality, person-centered
services. Many nurses while wishing to remain current in their practice have no
desire to undertake 3rd level studies. In addition, many of our overseas nurses are
unfamiliar with aspects of the nursing care of the older person. This five day
p rogramme is designed to meet the needs of both these groups of nurses.
Aim and objectives : The aim of this course is to provide participants with an
opportunity to reflect on issues pertinent to their clinical practice in care of the older
person settings and empower them to deliver evidence based, person centered care.
Course content includes
• Assessment of the Older person and use of various assessment tools.
• Pressure Sore Prevention and tissue viability.
• Falls prevention.
• Nutrition & hydration.
• Promoting Continence & management of Incontinence
• Nursing Documentation and record keeping.
• The use of Restraint,
• Person centered approaches to dementia care.
• The role of the nurse as a clinical leader.
• Assertiveness Skills
• Scope of Practice
• Self Directed Learning.
M ethod: Group Discussion, Lectures and Practical Workshops
Target Group: Nurses who wish update their knowledge and nurses new to care
of the older person.
