04/06/2009 - 00:00

This two day course aims to give participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver purposeful reminiscence work with individuals, couples and small groups.

The first day of training provides an overview of reminiscence work and introduces the basics in relation to planning and structuring reminiscence activity.  Day one also covers the use of multi sensory triggers and producing practice plans.

Between the first and second days training, participants are tasked with planning and delivering a small piece of reminiscence work with either an individual, couple or small group.

During the second day, participants share their recent practical experience.  Common problems, issues, solutions and learning are identified and explored.  Day two also provides guidance for using reminiscence with specific client groups, such as people with dementia, learning difficulties, intergenerational projects etc. depending on identified interests.

Participants will come from a wide range of backgrounds including community arts, community development, education, health and social care, housing, libraries, museums, and oral and local history.  Course tutors are experienced trainers and reminiscence practitioners.
