Have a Healthy Start to 2010! - Anderstown Health Day - 27 January
Get off to a great start in 2010 and come along to a Health Day at Andersonstown Leisure Centre on Wednesday 27 January.
Run by Belfast Trust Health Improvement Department in partnership with Belfast City Council, the event aims to promote healthy lifestyles and give information on the services available to enhance quality of life.
Activities, workshop and displays will provide information and advice on many topics including:
• accident prevention including falls prevention and community safety
• winter warmth including information on benefits available
• mental health issues
• drugs and alcohol
• sexual health
• smoking cessation
• diabetes and nutrition
• physical activity
There will be a morning, afternoon and evening session, each tailored for different age groups:
10am-1pm Older people
2pm-5pm Mothers and pre-school children
6pm-9pm Teenagers and adults
In the morning session, there will be dance and other physical activities for older people, while busy mums can enjoy holistic therapies such as Indian head massage and reflexology in the afternoon session. Activities for teenagers and adults at the evening session include boxercise, salsa and games on the Wii consoles.
The Health Day aims to help local people improve their health and wellbeing and health professionals will be on hand to offer expert advice and support.
Improving health outcomes in the Andersonstown area is a key objective of the local Neighbourhood Renewal Action Plan. The event is being jointly delivered and supported by Andersonstown Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership Board, Belfast City Council, and Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.
