Best Practice in Dementia for Healthcare Assistants (Facilitators training) – Become a facilitator for our hugely successful self-study course for healthcare assistants. The facilitators receive two days of training, plus a facilitators pack with a DVD and a resources to train a further 8 healthcare assistants in their workplace. Each facilitator will benefit from ongoing support from DSDC staff. This course will be on 25th & 26th May 2011 in Belfast, and this is the last chance to avail of this FREE training opportunity in 2011. The cost of this course is normally £1400 per facilitator’s programme.
Train a member of your staff to train your own healthcare assistants. Feedback from health care assistants who have been supported in this way confirms that this course is highly valued by them. Staff are learning valuable skills and are raising the quality of care they provide. Here’s what they have told us –
‘ One resident was being aggressive but as a result of the training, I knew to go away, leave the patient alone and then come back and distract him with something else and build the trust again.’
‘One resident who used to be very easy going and quiet went downhill rapidly and his sleeping patterns changed. We highlighted these changes and as a result his medication changed and he is a lot better now. I now know what to look out for as a direct result of attending the course.’
‘ we realised that a patient who walks about the ward at a particular time did this because he used to go ball-room dancing. This information was found out from the patients family which was a skill I had learnt on the course.’
