25/06/2008 - 09:00
25/06/2008 - 16:00

Wednesday 25th June 2008 (9am - 4pm)

Workshops

The Centre’s main educational programme is delivered via workshops conducted in local venues and involving up to 25 participants. Smaller numbers in attendance mean that participants are able to interact with the facilitator and with other colleagues. Workshops use a person-centred approach to dementia care and are directed at several different client groups, including:

  • staff in community care settings i.e. public health nurses, home helps, care attendants, community psychiatry nurses, day care staff, etc.
  • staff who work in residential settings
  • staff who work in acute settings

Our education philosophy is based on a wholistic multi-disciplinary and inclusive approach. Workshops are designed to include all staff who have contact with people who have a dementia. Therefore, the participation of members of housekeeping, domestic and catering staff in addition to nursing and para-medical staff is seen as being vitally important. The rationale for inclusive education is clear

  • hear the same message
  • see the same thing
  • work towards the same goals

While this may at times seem difficult to achieve in the context of rosters and staff shortages it is the key objective of dementia care training. A ‘Certificate of Merit’ will be presented to all participants. Our fee for a one day workshop is €734. This is a flat rate fee irrespective of where your organisation is based and is inclusive of expenses incurred by the trainer(s).

If you wish to discuss programme contents or if you have any queries or concerns please telephone Cecilia Craig at 01 416 2060 / 01 416 2035.
