The Brunel Institute for Ageing Studies, Brunel University and Tilda Goldberg Centre, University of Bedfordshire welcome you to a workshop on ‘Engaging Older People in Research’. The community of researchers interested in ageing and later life is continuing to grow, and their experience in developing innovative research methods and strategies to engage older people in their work is also expanding.
The purpose of this workshop is:

- To explore the development of older user participation in research and different levels for
- their involvement;
- To review recruitment and retention strategies used by ageing researchers; and
- To present ‘practice from the field’ from some of the UK’s leading researchers.
Some of the topics that will be covered will include: ethical issues in research with vulnerable people, empowerment, risk and responsibilities, engaging with different cultures, talking about sensitive topics, practical suggestions for engagement, and factors to consider when engaging people with dementia.
