Elder Not Older:
Older People As Community Assets

A One-Day Conference Event
Gallagher’s Hotel, Letterkenny
Friday, February 4th 2010, from 11am – 4pm
(Registration and tea/coffee from 10.30am)

Elder Not Older: Older People As Community Assets is a major one-day conference event exploring issues relating to ageing in Ireland.

Over the past six months, the Older People As Community Assets Project has been working with seniors groups across Donegal: the project aims to highlight the positive role older people are currently playing in society, as well as to inspire communities to recognise older people as valuable community assets.

The aim is to explore the relevant issues in a creative fashion, challenging established thinking and encouraging a bigger picture approach to addressing and redefining perceptions towards ageing in modern society.

This unique one-day event examines the issues raised to date by the Older People As Community Assets project, with presentations from an eclectic mix of guest speakers and participants in the project. The Keynote Speakers on the day are Mairead Bushnell, the National President of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and Ciaran McKinney, Director Of Operations for Age & Opportunity Ireland.

Admission to the Elder Not Older conference is free, and includes a complimentary lunch. All are welcome: this event will be of particular relevance to older people, community workers, health professionals and anyone working with seniors.

Numbers are limited, however, and attendance must be confirmed in advance: to reserve a place, please RSVP via e-mail (to donegalelders@gmail.com) or phone (087 973 9446) before February 01 2011.
