Volunteer Now, the organisation that provides regional and local leadership to volunteering in Northern Ireland, invites you to their one day international conference.   
Surfing the Silver Wave, Ensuring Civic Engagement and Well Being in an Ageing Society” will:
  • Turn the challenge of an ageing population into opportunities for communities.
  • Present the positive opportunities offered by increasing numbers of people, often highly skilled, moving into retirement.
  • Promote employee involvement in volunteering both pre and post retirement.
  • Highlight the positive impact of volunteering on the health of older people.
  • Explore different methods of service delivery, income generation, and sustainability.
 Speakers include:
  • Dr Virpi Timonen, Director of SPARC (Social Policy and Ageing Research Centre) Trinity College, Dublin.
  • Dr Brendan Murtagh, QUB.  Author of Understanding The Social Economy and the Third Sector.
  • Thomas Endres, Vice President Civic Engagement – National Council on Aging (USA).
  • Lester Strong, CEO of Experience Corps (USA), an organisation that places older volunteers as mentors within schools.
  • Barbara Huston, President, Partners in Care (USA), a time banking project that enables older people to “age in place."
  • Wendy Osborne OBE, CEO Volunteer Now and Board Member of IAVE.
Belfast City Council are kindly hosting a Civic Reception for Conference attendees on the evening of Wednesday 23rd March  at 7.30pm.  Places can be booked when registering for the conference.
