The Centre of Excellence for Successful Ageing, recently launched by Minister for Health and Children, Ms Mary Harney, is comprised of four key pillars, namely Clinical, Research, Training and Education and Creativity. The Creative Life Pillar promotes and highlight the creativity of older people and enables them to express themselves through creative activities such as photography, art, music and drama. It also interfaces closely with local community groups and other organisations to exploit and contribute to the rich community and creative resources around St. James’s Hospital. Our vision for the Centre is to continue to work outwards to interface with the wider Irish community and society thereby acting as a model of how creativity and the arts can contribute to successful ageing throughout Ireland.
The Department of Medicine for the Elderly, which forms a very important rolewithin theCentre of Excellence for Successful Ageing, has been working and collaborating with the local community for over thirty years and is delighted to be able to bring this exhibition to the patients, visitors and employees of the hospital.
