Support to attend Canadian Summer Programme in Ageing

CARDI and the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) - Institute of Aging are working in partnership to support up to five early career researchers to attend the Canadian Summer Program in Ageing.  

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in ageing research to take part in a 5 day training programme in Canada – flights, accommodation and meals covered.

Dr O’Sullivan, Director  of CARDI said, ”This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge, be exposed to different perspectives, build networks, collaborations, and friendships for the future and help career development.”

SPA 2012 will have an applied focus and the hosts, the Simon Fraser University - Gerontology Research Centre, have identified ageing and technology as the key themes:
•    Applied gerontology: emphasis on well-being, enablement, and social participation rather than sickness, disability and care;
•    Technology development: creating and implementing real-world technology solutions for independent living;
•    Ageing in a technological world: understanding technology as a social process;
•    Innovative methods in applied gerontology;
•    Multidisciplinary working and knowledge transfer.


Eligibility

Applicants must:


•    be enrolled in (or recently completed) a full time or part time Master's or PhD programme in a University in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland or hold a postdoctoral fellowship at a University in Ireland- north or south; or doing post-graduate clinical training on the island of Ireland that includes a programme of research.
•    have research interests, a thesis subject or a post-doctoral project in the field of ageing, or with an ageing component; (interest in one or more of the following will be particularly beneficial: ageing and technology; age focused knowledge transfer;  international collaboration, innovatory methods in applied gerontology).
•    have a valid passport – and meet requirements for entry into Canada http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp.
•    confirm ability to travel between 5 – 12 May 2012.
